What Consumed the Rust

Artist: Guram Tsibakhashvili
Year: 2017-2020
Country: Georgia
Video Duration

Video duration: 04:57

‘What Consumed the Rust’ is shot by soviet-time camera Horizon. The series commenced 3 years before the COVID-19 crisis - uniting images of empty scenery in Tbilisi and other Georgian towns – surprisingly resembles/reveals the current reality of total quarantine with its lifeless urban spaces.

‘What Consumed the Rust’ is shot on the soviet-period film, film of 1980-ies. The film is damaged (moulded), and besides being a strong visual element of the image, it also bears the function of contextual element. ‘What Consumed the Rust’ is visual reflection on the ‘apocalyptic’ consequences of egoistic and consumerist attitudes of human beings to their surrounding environment.
