Like The Cat, I Have Nine Times To Die
Video duration: 06:00
"Like the cat, I have nine times to die" is a personal, allegorical project and a step into the raw reality of being a woman. In the misogynist culture, women are under permanent oppression, harassment, abuse, sexual violence, these happen on daily basis and my work is a visual manifestation of the anxiety that we deal with. Sylvia Plath’s poem “Lady Lazarus” is a symbolic guideline in the unjust world of fear and anger, referring to the constant immortality of our complex emotions.
The project was produced in the frame of the Online Art Residency Accompanied by a Long-term Mentorship Program & Production Grant for South Caucasian Women Photographers for the Year 4 of MagiC Carpets April-September 2021.
Mentored by Newsha Tavakolian/Magnum Photos.
The program supports the South Caucasian women photographers and visual artists to produce stories covering different issues in the region.
The program was implemented by Tbilisi Photo Festival in a partnership with Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum funded by MagiC Carpets, a Creative Europe Platform.
