Something Very Dear

Something Very Dear

Sara Kontar

The Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum, Tbilisi Photo Festival and The Prince Claus Fund present the group exhibition ‘Something Very Dear’.

The exhibition features works by nine artists - women from different parts of the world - from Turkey to the Middle East, from South Asia to North and South Africa. Each of them uses photography, video, or sound to reflect on their surroundings and address an environment that is often unjust and cruel.

“What you will see in this exhibition, the stories these works will tell, are tales of resistance. Tales of survival, and sometimes, of the deaths that accompany them. These works speak for themselves, and there is no need for my explanation. Instead, I want to shift the focus—not to the battles being fought, but to what makes them worth fighting for.

I wonder: What is so dear to these artists that it drives them to speak up?

I wonder the same about myself.

I wonder the same about you.” - we read in the exhibition text.

The exhibition will open on March 13th at 17:00 and will last two months.

Artists: Larissa Araz (Turkey), Abeer Aref (Yemen), Dumama (South Africa), Marianne Fahmy (Egypt), Shayma Hamad (Palestine), Tahia Fahrin Haque (Bangladesh), Sara Kontar (Syria), Riska Munawarah (Indonesia), Dina Salem (Palestine).

Curated by: Ana Gabelaia

The exhibition “Something Very Dear” is produced in the frame of the Prince Claus Fund’s program “Fertile Ground”.
